Superstitions ?

What are some of the superstitions that you go by? what are some that you've heard of that are crazy or never heard of?

kcinnick 08-04-2015 08:38 AM

You never walk over a crab line EVER. Especially if it is not your own.

Or maybe that is etiquette drilled into me by my grandfather, either way, don't walk/fish/dance on the crab line people.

clothes, if i have a good day fishing, i will classify them as my lucky fishing clothes, and try to wear them next time, it never works though, not sure if it is coincidence or i have on the wrong socks or underwear :eek::eek::eek:

Here a link to a thread i started a while back. Pretty funny stuff but most of us have something.

rardoin 08-04-2015 05:16 PM

If I am going fishing and I see cows laying down......uhhhh...never mind:D.

alphaman 08-04-2015 05:18 PM

I don't split poles

Goooh 08-05-2015 04:01 AM

I never fish where I don't see other boats catching, and don't potlick boats with motors smaller than 300HP - unless I'm with PotLickinIsAHabit

Never been superstitious but my wife's grandmother oh wow. She had to leave through the door she entered. Many times at work we had to open a bay door after closing to let her out. She would not leave through a door she didn't use to enter. Never got that but it was her thing.

one that always works is if you want to get a bite, look away from your bait and sure enough that's when you get a hit lol.

another one is when you put your pole down to eat or get a drink and they will hit it

It never fails! Another one along these lines are if your meal is taking a while to come out at a restaurant, go to the bathroom. It's almost guaranteed that's when your food will come out.

same with duck hunting. if no birds are flying, roll them waders down to take a leak and as soon as the flow starts------here come the birds, never fails!

smooth move 08-06-2015 07:36 AM

if you let someone use your knife, if you give it to them open----they've got to give it back open. same thing in reverse.

gasdad 08-06-2015 06:37 PM

Bananas in boat = bad luck fishing

cajunduck man 08-06-2015 07:03 PM

No birds flying, case up guns and begin to pick up decoys and the birds are trying to land on your head. Old Cajun superstition: If you see hawks while you are duck hunting go to another spot

I was with a coworker and sweeping the floor when I brushed it on his boot. He grabbed the broom and spit on it. Anyone know the story behind this?

This was my dad's thing. So much so, it's now my thing.

Matt G 08-07-2015 09:26 AM

If someone gives you a knife as a gift, you have to pay them something for it. Even if it's a penny..... And never give a wallet as a gift to someone without money in it.

I always understood this was a respect thing and not a superstition thing. If a man chooses to give you his knife opened, then that's how he likes to change hands with his knife and since you are borrowing it you gotta give it back the way he prefers. If it's closed, give it back the same way
