Sonar Logging V Bay - Big Lake

1 Attachment(s)
Hello SC Peeps, many of you have contacted Alphaman and I about creating contour maps of V Bay and Big Lake but not sure how to log sonar on your unit.

I have created some instructional videos showing how to record on the HDS units. Those of you that have the elite series can log sonar but the manual is not straight forward on this and I do not have a unit to play with. I will be working on getting one from someone to figure it out.

Some of you have Humminbird and Garmin Units. Depending on the unit you can log sonar and we can write maps for these units so don't feel left out. If you are interested, contact Alphaman or myself.

We update the map everytime we get a sonar log. I just completed Bayou Lucien this weekend. White areas below are the are areas we have mapped so far.

Having this information at your finger tips really changes how you approach different area that you fish and changes how you fish the area. It helps you decide where and how to position your boat on Drop offs, eddies, points reefs etc. With this info, you can see where the fish are holding in an area, Just by looking at your nav page on your gps. You know exactly where the changes are in the bottom contour. and if your catching fish in that specific area. now You know why.
which help you better understand what's going on beneath you.

I'll try to do a practice run on Sunday when I head out to Henderson to pull the kids on the tube. How zoomed-in should I set the depth or does that not matter?

It doesnt matter, it records a waypoint and depth. your screen settings do not affect logging but i do suggest you max out your ping speed.

looks like both of these can record sonar. i would suggest a 16 gig card for your units. They are $15 at walmart.

PM Me and send me your contact info. I can make sure you are good to go.

Also, don't think we are just limited to Big Lake or Vermilion bay. If you have another area you would like to map we can do that too.

I have started maps of the following areas:
-Vermilion River in Lafayette
-Lake Martin
-Delacroix

I would love to do Henderson but I don't get there that much.

I have a coworker that will be logging sonar for henderson, big Alabama little Alabama miller's lake.
he a bass fisherman
