free nav map downloads for gps

are there free nav map downloads for gps?

I realize you wont get as much detail or true accuracy for free, but im not wanting to spend $100+ on a map card so there must be free versions out there that are much better then the generic "basic" maps that come with the gps units?

anybody know where something can be found to download "basic" bathymetric data maps

well I am totally clueless about how this stuff works so do I just download something onto a data card and plug it into the depth finder?

@ redaddiction - is the navionics app free and where can I find it?

@ alphaman - is the real time navigation an app? and if so where can I find it? or is what you are talking about just data you personally recorded yourself over time on the water?

personal recording along with other people who helping out.

1.log sonar while fishing.
2 upload to a program create the map
3 download to sd card place on gps.
we update the maps each time we get a sonar file from the ones who are recording or from our own trips

alphaman 08-25-2015 02:52 PM

It not just myself and scott. We have a group of people helping out here in vbay and a group in big lake with the mapping.
