Vermillion Bay or DuLarge

Salinity looks good in the bay but not sure if the trout are quite there yet.

What yall think...go down to Dularge and stay the weekend? I know at least we can wear out bull reds. Or work the bay , pass etc?

BArmand 09-16-2015 05:50 AM

How high is the river? East winds normally pushes River water into bay. I'd head to Dularge.

Dularge, theres 20-30 charter Captains in Dularge year round, theres may be 2 or 3 in Vermillion Bay...... that should tell you all you need to know.

We caught a few specks yesterday around the point. They're coming in, but the water still has to get a little cooler for the spawn migration.

What I was thinking. Lol. Good point Swamp Snorkeler.

Nothing like VB for those 2 months when the trout get going. Can't wait!

It's triggered by the duck migration. It's starts when the teal show up, and really kicks up when the big ducks show up.

Never thought of that but its pretty close!!

brad b 09-17-2015 07:32 AM

Lol it really does coincide that way. I saw somewhere it really kicks I'm when water temps drop below 78 degrees. They were at that level all last week before the cooler weather moved back out. Need that good cool push to move em in

Sightwindow 09-17-2015 09:05 AM

How could I forget? Cooler water temps allow the trout to fan their beds easier. My mistake.

Yep, they hate "fanning their beds" in hot water.:shaking:

Sightwindow 09-17-2015 12:13 PM

Cooler water also gives them the energy to guard the nest.

truth

meaux fishing 09-17-2015 04:23 PM

You know what cools the water down? The wind created from all the duck wings flapping

Sitting on Caldwell reef a few days back and saw a big girl sitting on the bed. Caught the male and tried for female for 3 hours and she wouldn't bite.

Dang.... It works for Hank Parker.

I find they're finicky on their beds, when on Caldwell. Nice try though. At least you know where she is, and can go back for her.

I'll post some numbers of the gravel beds in VB that hold the fat spawners. You have to go scout in January on a 30kt North blow at low tide to see the beds out of the water. Then you can easily beach the boat and walk the gravel to see where they have been wallowing out a spot...mark it on the GPS. Next high tide you are in business!:work:

Crap....can't find my log book with those GPS numbers...only have the LORAN-A td's. Is there an I-phone app for conversion?

Live croakers do the trick. Guaranteed to make a trout mad enough to let their guard down. They eat the eggs. Has nothing to do with being a food source...

bobo23 09-18-2015 01:17 PM

A picture of Caldwell after a big north blow. Look at all the beds.

yep Bobo....got the numbers on that bed too. Caught a 17 lb speck there last year......caught with a 3lb live shrimp under a crab pot float.
