Anyone bowfish in SWLA??

Never see any bow fishing rigs around... Have lots of carp choupique in our marsh... Would love to try and shoot them, but I know nothing about bowfishing..
Not sure if I should entertain another expensive hobby

Lol, know the feeling, I said about 5 years ago I need another expensive hobby like I need a hole in my head.
For example I have never played 1 round of golf in my life, too many irons in the fire.

I've only been once, in Leeville, was a lot of fun.

Never been in louisiana. We went on a trip while fishing on Choke Canyon in Three Rivers Tx.... It was an awesome trip just never rigged up myself to do it

I have done it a few time from Vermillion bay area and from Big lake, Had some great trips. If you Have the time and cash, get into it. The fish won't always bite a bait but they will always eat a shift LOL

Used to do it a little. It's fun. I certainly didn't have a decked out pro rig. Car headlights hooked to batteries but it worked. Do some ebay shopping to save some $ on the initial investment. Can always up grade stuff as you go so the wife doesn't get sticker shock.lol. It's fun and I may get back into it. Good luck.

We took one of our bows, epoxied a bright light in the middle of a wrap around type line holder that screws in stabilizer hole, rigged a toggle switch and ran clip on wires to boat battery. Then went out with battery operated hand held spotlights to spot fish, then switched on the bow light when ready to shoot. A quick hint if you do it this way and haven't bowfished very much, rig the light so that when your light is on the fish, you are actually aimed a little low to compensate for the water refraction. We could shoot all night and never run down the boat battery, and didn't have to rig halogen or led lights all around bow of boat. Now to be certain, we didn't see as many fish as when we bowfish with a guide in an airboat with enough halogen to create artificial daylight, but we did see and shoot a ton of fish. We have fished carp, gar, buffalo, and bass (even a brim or two) in fresh water, but it does not compare to redfish, spadefish, flounder, and gar in the marsh. And it seems to be easier to find clear water in the marsh for us where we live. We usually locate good water during the day, then go back out at night to where we found the good water to save time running around in the dark.

Anybody bow fish or do guiding on the calcasieu or big lake? May try to go when I'm down this spring if I can find somebody to take us out.
