headed to the bend

Anyone willing to help a Toledo bend newbie out? I've never been and will be staying at a friends camp in Many, LA. I'm looking for some quality bass, and plan on doing a bunch of flipping and hopefully a little frog action as well. Any tips are appreciated, thanks!

Ha, headed up there Friday myself. I will be fishing around the 1215 area.

Dont know what they are biting on but PM with your number. if we find something can give you a holla.

my brother swears by slow rolling a double willow leaf spinnerbait in 6 ft of water.

We're catching good in San miguel 1215 area last weekend on points.

Gold willow leaf spinner did ok for me a week ago. Thrown up in the grass and slowly worked through.

I flipped bushes all day Sat. Did well but couldn't beat #26, #21, or #18 so didn't cut a check. All of those guys were fishing deep.

I am not sure where you will be launching, but the mouth of Palo Gaucho has been holding some good fish. Fish the Hay Grass on the points early and move towards the flooded brush later. Flooded brush we have been doing well with black/blue sweet beaver. Good Luck.

i would start off deep throwing cranks, jigs, c rigs, t rigs, ect. if they don't bite move to the inside haygrass line or back in coves and throw t rigs, flukes , and frogs, did well for us two weekends ago

I fished Housen last Friday. Water temp was 68-69. I didn't go near the bank. I was fishing post spawners 8 to 15 fow. 6 fish caught on 5XD CB and TR worms. Best five were 9, 7.5, 6.2, 6, and 4 lbs. My biggest fish came on a TR junebug worm. I fished primary and secondary points with creek channels adjacent to them. There was also isolated grass and stumps. If you didn't hit either you didn't get a bit. They were chocking the 5XD. I didn't caught many but all quality fish. Good luck and hope this helps.

awesome man! Thanks for the report! Would you mind sharing what color 5xd?

Mguidroz 04-13-2016 05:04 PM

Sure man the color was Citrus Shad. The water was still a little stained that's why I went with the color. Good luck

Sweet! I believe I have that color already.

I fished last weekend caught good early and late around hay grass on chug bugs and mid day long points on kvd 2.5s. Chug bugs produced bigger fish for us
