Sabine River 10/01/2016

Fished 7:15am-5:40pm, south of I-10. Caught 16, kept 8. Baitfish are schooling.

I didn't have the luxury of using my depthfinder as I found my battery switch cracked apart while getting the boat ready to launch. It's always something...
I'm glad I wired my trolling motor straight to the battery.

Judging by stomach contents, the bass are eating shad and crabs. It never really struck me that crabs would be an important food source for bass out there but it makes good sense.
Now I'm on the lookout for a creature bait or crawfish in Green Pumpkin/ Blue.
I was trying to "match the hatch" by throwing shad-colored flukes and white willow-leaf spinnerbaits but got nothing in return.
Every fish I caught was on a worm.
Also threw Senkos, a jig, flipped a creature, a buzzbait... nothing happening for me.
I didn't really start catching until 4pm.

Watermelon blue might be a good color
