Raccoon Meat

Ok guys I am getting into running a few trap lines this winter. I hear there is a market out there for Raccoon meat. Would anybody know an interested party? I have been asking around a lot and I hear how many people cook it and even had someone offer to cook it at work. No one interested in buying though....

Any ideas? I would hate to waste the meat!

Thanks

I've tried it. No thanks. Maybe in a starvation situation.

When I was trapping, we used to boil them up and feed them to our ducks.

The ducks ate them.

That has to be an extremely small market.

From what I have been told one or two buyers will take everything you catch each year

We used to take them and smoke them. Then use them in gumbo. Duck, smoked coon, and wild mushrooms. Man U talk about good.

I wouldn't be against trying it from someone who knew how to prep it.

The trick to coon is when ya skin them ya hafta take out the musk glands in their arm pits and groin. after that its a rich red meat its a tradition among my friends every year we get together for a big smoked coon gumbo and it is very good.
