The new Mustang GT continues Ford’s powertrain offensive with an all-new 5.0-liter V-8, which uses advanced technology to deliver 412 horsepower and projected unsurpassed highway mileage of 25 mpg

I had one in the mid 80's. That was a runnin mudder.
But it was not too driver friendly on wet roads.
My ex-wife wiped out several times on rainy days.
Most of the problem was braking and on take off.
It couldn't get a good bite on the blacktop.
But it ran like a scalded dog on dry roads.

the engine has got to be one of the best of my generation aside from the chevy 5.7 of course

hell i wouldn't mind a 5.0 in an F150

Shawn Braquet 01-06-2010 10:48 AM

i used to have a 92 f150 with the 5.0 it just wasn't the HO that the mustang had. I put a set of F150 lightning headers on it and it was a pulling machine. Had a long bed and super cab. I would pull a trailer with 2 four wheelers, then put a four wheeler and a dirt bike in the bed then 6 people in the cab and would head to cravens near pitkin and ride. Good times good times.

I use to work at meineke and its really hard to make the 5.4 sound good, maily because they have 4 cats on them. I would probably put a 14" body magnaflow on it....

Here's an "older than dirt" 302 story.

My best friend in high school in 1976 inherited a lime green automatic-shift Maverick from his grandpaw who lived about 4 hours away. If you don't remember the Maverick, it was like a Gremlin back then. Reeel ugly. Needless to say my buddy was depressed.

His one year older brother (who had never driven the Maverick but had a hot late-60's Mustang) drove over and retrieved it. I remember clearly the day I was at his house when he drove up in it. His older brother got out and told my buddy he'd straight up trade him. We couldn't believe it. Here was a lime green/shat brown interior Maverick POS and his older brother was willing to part with his 'Stang??? Yep, because it had a 302 in it.

My buddy spent a little money and put some headers on it - a wolf in sheep's clothing - it was so loud..... I remember us drinking Miller little ponies on weekend nights and pulling up behind the Kroger and spinning the tires with the windows down...it was deafining. That muther was summm quick....

4 cats? can I cut 2out? would a flowmaster be enough backpressure?

edit: would an 02 sensor eliminator work if i removed the 2 rear cats?

You cannot take the cats off without a big time re tune of the cpu. As far as back pressure goes...you can pretty much run any muffler you want and not have to worry about it with those 4 cats. No matter what you put on it you will never get the nice sound like a chevy or dodge.

Little brother had an 86 and it would run like a spotted a*% Ape but there was very little brakes past 120. Remember that car fondly since it cost me my most expensive speeding ticket, 99/45 and ride downtown. Sure would like to try one out again.

That's what I had on my old truck but I had some 3.5" diameter tips that were 24" long coming out the corners. AND it was true dual exhaust!!!!

Jordan 01-06-2010 02:39 PM

mine is true dual exhaust.... i changed them from the boom tubes to just turndowns.... talk about a difference... alottttt more getty-up now too !!!

longsidelandry 01-06-2010 02:48 PM

Yea, that true dual makes a huge difference

Jordan 01-06-2010 02:50 PM

yezzir it does !!!

Ray 01-06-2010 04:56 PM

You can go as big as you want with the exhaust, but you need a good intake system
to make up more HP too.
If you can't get the air in, you are wasting money on exhaust.
