Pompano in Big Lake??

I've been meaning to post this and have forgotten all about it until i saw a video in FL. I was fishing in Big Lake late last summer and was travelling the east bank heading back to Hebert's when I came across a school of fish. I didnt realize i was in a school of fish until i was in the middle of them and they started jumping. I've never caught a pompano before but have seen them in person.... the school i passed through looked an awful lot like pompano. Very distinct forked tails and deeper bodies with a lighter color to the fish. Has anyone ever come across anything like that in Big Lake?

never in big lake but tons of them at the 5 mile rigs between Cameron and Grand Cheniere. They love live shrimp!

I wouldn't say its impossible, I have seen them on near shore rigs. And I have seen more of them the farther west I went in the state

I'd think it a Jack Crevalle before Pompano, as I've caught plenty in Lake Charles during periods of high salinity, but nothing's impossible.

They migrate through and folks catch them at the barrier islands in ms for a bit. Can only assume they'd be at Chandy too

Prolly Jack Crevalle, I've seen plenty around Vermillion Bay and have friends catch a couple around Weeks Bay mainly during the fall so I'm sure there'd be a few wondering around Big Lake.

wouldn't surprise me, that lake is full of surprises. I used to see sea turtles all the time in LNG when i worked at the construction yard right there.

There was a hand on here that caught some snook out there

one of the coolest things I saw was a shark chasing a crevalle. that shark was thrashing everywhere after it, and the crevalle was jumping out the water trying to get away. all this up on top the water, where you would see both of them perfectly, in turners of all places. me and my buddy just froze speechless watching this go on for what seemed like forever, but probably wasn't all that long in reality. That's one of the things I love most about fishing BL. you just never know what you might see out there.

Naw... a school of Permit. DaPointIsDaBomb's ex-wifes cousin, twice removed, said his boss's brother knew a guy who had a friend who caught permit back in the day near the dead end at the LNG plant. At least that is what a friend said his step-mother told him. I can't verify it, but......
