Grand Isle this weekend
We heading down to grand isle this weekend. Bringing the kayaks the bay boat and the go devil. Any advice for some rookies? We only go once a year so. Looks like its gonna be windy. If anything it'll be a relaxing weekend at the camp

There are usually some spots in the pass that are protected where you can score bull reds. Full details in the thread linked above. |
are you talking about the pass where the bridge is and the marina?
I only have a gps no depth finder so it might be hard for me to tell where the drop off is |

Be very careful if you decide to fish the marsh. Tickets are being written and folks are being arrested for trespassing in certain areas. stick to elmers island and bayou thunder and you should be okay.

Trespassing? Didn't realize that there was much private property out that way. Good to know.

If you look at a map of the grand isle / fourchon / leeville area . the state only lays claim to .bayou laurier , bayou palourde and bayou fer blanc. lake laurier and lake palourde . On the gulf side of la1 they claim bayou thunder von tranc and the elmers island area. I have heard that there is a management area between fourchon and grand isle but don't know if that is accurate. Every thing else is listed as privately owned.
Will you get a ticket or arrested ?? entirely up to the "landowner " or their lessee. and the LEO in that area. some will just run you out and some will have you ticketed. a couple of places you will be arrested. The land owners are doing everything in their power to get the laws changed in this legislative session to lock down private ownership of the publics waters. (see my post titled Uh Oh ). |
Eman, can u post a link to the map?!

we are staying at a camp just across from elmers island road
do you know anything about the marsh in that area planned on just fishing the marsh along hwy 1 beween the bridge and bayou laurier and the bridge area |
Theres some good fishing right behind those camps that canal widens out as you go towards caminada bay, theres some good oyster reefs in that part of the canal.
also theres a camp on the right corner of elmers canal and the tee that has lights at night and usually no one fishing them. my connection is at the capitol as we speak so i can not comment on the marsh. I will look at the map again tomorrow night at the meeting if they bring it to make sure on that area. |
