South Padre trip.

Just got back from SPI, could not get reds to bite, and took 3 days to get into good specs.

Huge reds tailing in grass flats, would not hit anything we threw at them.

Few dinks here and there. Then yesterday got into some big (by tx coast standards) schools of specs. Pulled in about 40 in a few hours. Most were just under 15". Boated one 27" and one 22". Also a bunch of skipjack and whiting. All fish on white cocahoe minnow with chartreuse tail, #5 circle hook rigged weightless and weedless.

Also got hit by a sting ray on the foot!

Can't wait to get down to big lake for some Cajun fishing! https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...9a4e9cfcb5.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...84497313d8.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...c795db1a17.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...a046f929fc.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...8962db4bea.jpg

sounds like a fun trip minus the stingray

Did u have to pull the stinger back out? Or rather push it thru. Worry about them everytime I wade. Was in the water for 10 hours yesterday.

Grew up on south padre, lots of good memories, was there a few weeks ago. We had a fish camp at Pt. Mansfield when I was a kid. Nothing like southern La. though as far as fishing. My uncle and cousin are guides there on SPI.

I got really lucky. I felt it and jumped out the damn water as soon as I touched it. It popped me in the side of the foot and where there's not much meat and stinger fell out.

You want to talk about pain!.

Extremely hot water and meat tenderizer helped a ton. And a ton of beer.

Disinfect with iodine and grabbed some antibiotics. Happened Wednesday afternoon fished rest of week, home now and it's still stiff and swollen. But bearable.

Damn it! I hope I never get hit by one. I thought I stepped on one while fighting a speck last year in the surf but since I didn't get stung I figured it was likely a flounder. I definitely worry about them more than I do sharks. By the way nice catch. And that is some beautiful water! I wish we had water like that. Hell if we could just have the clean water we get after a few days of north wind that's the only kind of fishing I would do! Surf fishing is so fun. Looks like u were out in kayak too though. Been thinking of getting one so I can make it out to the rock breakers. Anyway good luck to u and take care of that hit. I have a cut from getting rocks in my shoes on my right foot just under my ankle and have been cleaning and babying the hell out of that thing. Spending months in a hospital dying with that flesh eating bacteria is not the way I want to go at all. Got a good warning about it before I even got to the beach then saw the signs and as soon as I get back had a Facebook post of a guy dying with it after getting a tattoo and swimming in the gulf 5 days later. Tight lines!

Yeah, still a risk but not as high down there because the water is moving so much more I guess.

I bay fished with the kayak in the mornings and surf fished afternoon.

It was crazy. When there's no wind it looks like pool water. Could see the bottom 8ft deep. And watching the fish come hit my lure was awesome!

Planning some trips to big lake now that I've got my fishing boat rebuilt.
