Sabine River 7/09/2017

Fished 7:30-3pm after launching at Burntout Bridge. Caught 7 bass, kept 5.
Weather was hot and sunny until about 1pm when the periodic drizzle began. The bite was decent until the tide started coming in. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...1c7023a44d.jpg

Is it safe to run up to the launch from the river?

T-Boo 07-10-2017 03:19 PM

Yes. Same as it ever was.

Be careful over there. Been reports of car burglaries starting up again around vinton area. Mostly recent was vinton drainage ditch. Nice report. Appreciate it. I got office tourney there this weekend. My experience is on calcaseiu not sabine. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Matter of fact, I was noticing a bunch of shattered window/windshield glass where a truck was parked.
I have my "spots" in the Sabine, but can't really think of any real advice.
I prefer darker-colored plastics out there (black/blue, junebug) by my friend goes watermelon/red religiously.
If you can produce on the Calcasieu, I'd guess that the Sabine shouldn't be hard for you. The Calc always seemed tough to me.

I was down there checking it out today, spoke with a fella in a really nice express with a 115 SHO. Asked him about launching a 22' boat, he said no prob.

We stopped by to fish for a minute by the can, and some kids in a 00'-02' black chev 4x4 crew cab came by haulin butt. Not sure what the deal was but the didn't linger down by the ramp very long.

I was down there today also...fished Conway Bayou and kept 9. First time in a while that I launched at Burn Out Bridge because of the vandalism that does occur there from time to time. Most of the time I just drive the extra few miles to Orange and launch either at the Simmons St. launch or at Lotties in Orange Cove...aka "da Cove". If you launch in Texas just remember even though you are fishing on the LA side you mush abide by the Texas regulations for the lower Sabine River. 8 bass with a 12 inch minimum size. Also if you catch Redfish the limit is 3 between 20 and 26 inches. Also, in Texas all of Orange County is considered below the freshwater line so if you are checked, like I have been, be sure to have your saltwater endorsement.

It is a five fish limit on bass if you launch and fish in Texas.

T-Boo 07-14-2017 05:53 AM

I gave up on trying to remember the rules on the Sabine.
If I ever get approached by the game warden out there, I'm just gonna tell him that I'm sure I'm guilty of something while putting my hands behind my back and then tell him to just cuff me.
There can't be a more confusing place to legally fish.
All I can do is have a valid fishing license and have my boat up to standard equipment and paperwork. The rest is set up to fail.

Yes you are correct it is confusing.

LukeMcFarlane 07-14-2017 12:46 PM

Yes it is confusing. the easiest way to remember is if you go in Texas off the river it is Texas law. So 5. If you stay in the main river or in la you can follow la laws.

LukeMcFarlane 07-14-2017 12:58 PM

Main river is shared so it is 8 main river lol. Screwed that part up. But yes confusing.

T-Boo 07-14-2017 01:45 PM

With a 12" size limit in "Texas" only, right?
I was told (FWIW) that off the main river in LA there is no size limit.

I think that is right on the size limit but not sure. I usually keep 12-13 inch fish and throw the others back

Disappointed day on the river today. Tide was headed out but slowing as we arrived. I didn't put a fish in the boat til around 8:00. Best five keepers only reached 8.09. Caught one keeper on a whopper plopper and the rest flipping in the lily's.

T-Boo 07-15-2017 07:36 PM

I'm going in the morning. Thanks for the report.

I took a friend of mine's son to the south end of the Burns this morning...below Grandlake on the east side of Rockefeller. The water in the Superior Canal was clear and moving out. We fished on of the canals off of the Superior and kept 7 bass on an H&H. He doesn't get to fish too much so I bring him when they are in town. He likes to catfish so when I realized that the bass were not cooperating too well we went back to the Superior Canal and tight lined for catfish...all the catfish were small but the "Goo" bite was on. He had never caught "Goo" before and had a blast. The weather came up so we had to leave. And yes, we kept the "Goo"...LOL...

You launched off Simmons? Drive a white Chevy wit a flatbottom and merc?
