Maw Maw's hog

Got the call everyone hates this morning before 6:00. My last living grandparent had passed away this morning after fighting many ailments for 97 years. Up until her final days, whe still had all her faculties, even calling me to go pick fruit from her trees before this freeze.

We made arrangements this morning and tended to everything that needed to get done. My little sister is the funeral director at the funeral home where she will be laid out, so it was pretty easy. The rest of the day I did all the things we do on days like today, get new shirt for suit, etc.

This afternoon, I decided I just wanted to go sit in a stand and relive some of my memories with her, say some prayers, and have a peaceful time in the woods. I got home later than expected, changed, and loaded the Rhino up. I took my time getting there, just having some quiet time. I had made up my mind that if I saw a hog I would take it to have a fresh hind quarter for the cajun microwave to add to the menu.

I parked the Rhino and looked at my watch noticing it was already 4:45. I turned the corner from the trail to make my way to a tripiod stand overlooking a un-cut bean field. I was shocked to see 13 hogs already feeding only 50 yards from the stand. I used one of the pipeline markers as a rest, looked at them through the scope and realized they were over 200 yards. I remembered that I am using the same gun that dropped a big buck just a week or so ago by my step son at 300 yards so I better not miss!

I rested the gun, placed the cross hairs on the ear, and let it fly. Never knew what hit it, a nice 160lb sow. I then looked up at the sky and thanked my Maw Maw as she was probably looking down on me, thinking I had better things to do than sit around in a deer stand waiting on a pig to come out. I made it home, and had it cleaned just as the sun went down.

Thanks Maw Maw, we love you!

Thanks for the kind words fella's! She was the type of grandmother that always had something good to eat in the kitchen, no matter what time it was. You also could not leave without eating! LOL

I think her kitchen will have a huge amount of food in it this week!
