4 stroke 40hp Tohatsu or Suzuki?
 

I'm looking to repower my 16x48 and looking at these 2 motors. Is there anything that sets one apart from the other?

Tohatsu 40hp. You pay for a 40hp but remove the restrictor plate and it becomes an instant 50hp motor.

I can't speak for anything but the Tohatsu. I just sold a 1650 Xpress with a 2016 Tohatsu 40. I could run 37-38 @ 6000-6200 rpm loaded for fishing. That's me, TM, 9 gallons of fuel, 20# ice and two group 31 agm batteries. Averaged 10mpg. Great little motors.
