Bowfishing for Redfish

Are you for or against this practice? Going to post the poll results in the April issue of Cajun Outdoors.

They have to keep them. It's the law. Wanton waste.
No one should kill fish and chunk them back. Where do you see this?

Fishmaster 03-09-2010 06:32 PM

Down by my camp 99% of the idiots do,:shaking:
Some of them get there limits, then keep doing it and throwing them back.....

BayouFX4 03-09-2010 06:56 PM

I'd love to do it sometime. I can't believe lowlifes would shoot more than their limits. Some people are born stupid.

trev 03-09-2010 07:02 PM

Its crazy how some people have no respect for wildlife. We quit shootin reds once we get our limits and we don't shoot them if they are questionable on size. If the night is still young well start shootin sheep head.

They should be reported. Keep them honest.

Take your boat down to the marshes of Dularge on any given Saturday/Sunday morning early.

I think it should be perfectly legal to bowfish!!!! - During daylight hours only! Freshwater guys do it for gar, and you can see reds swimming the shallows during the day.

Are you only going to fish them during daylight hours only also? I have never been bowfishing but have talked to a few people and they loved it. I plan on rigging up my bow to be able to make a few trips.

Sorry, just don't get into shooting fish at night w/ 1543264KW generator pushing lights 3' down in the water. To me, the challenge is all but gone at that point. But, to each his own, and everyone has the right to their own opinion.

Pool Boy 03-10-2010 09:47 PM

It ain't fishing....its shooting...
I am against it...

Bayouguy 03-15-2010 09:22 AM

Not sure if I like it or not ..Maybe if someone takes me 3 or 4 times I can make a descision.......LOL..Also you guys that are against it you may want to take me 3 or 4 times redfishing so as to make a better judgement of the two...LOL

hmmmmm

i voted for it . But after talking to some folks this weekend about the fish hunters out shooting specks ,I'm not so sure.
IMHO, The bowfishing guides aren't the ones doing this as they would risk losing their license if caught.
There are alot of folks that have set up small rigs for bowfishing.
I have seen a few dead undersize reds w/ holes in em in the area i fish.
I was asked what about making fish hunters keep the 1st 5 reds they shot?
My reply was that we would see alot more dead fish w/ holes in them because if some folks can cull up they will throw back a smaller fish ,Dead or not.

Eman- I always respect your post and insight. However, the license issue is not a valid point, since they have no license to lose! A charter captain is licensed by the USCG to carry people on a boat, and they do not revoke the license of a tow boat captain when they cause a oil spill, so the coast guard will not pull their six pack paper for some redfish with holes in it. As far as the state license, I think that is a joke. We have guys with a state license that are the biggest outlaws out there. Look at the big man from Fourchon with the snapper trip for the Georgia guys that owned the resturants. How many red snapper over the limit were they????? He is still in business to this day!

Sorry, I can not shoot a wild feral hog at night on my own property w/o having a $25 permit and a mile of paperwork. Yet these guys can shoot up our fisheries at night with no regard for undersized fish, I just don't get it.

Not trying to be a big Ahole here, and people that know me know what is on my mind, comes out of my mouth. But this topic is just one I don't get.

fish hunting

like i said it is mho and that can be changed. the only time i went the capt. and hands called shoot or no. and anything close was a no. i have been down south most of my life and i know that some of theso called capts. are the biggest of the out laws.
all i could base my opinion on was the guy i went with.
