How was the duck hunting in LA this past season?

We had an extremely amazing season, for some reason when we get a hurricane the next couple seasons following are the most productive for us over in Anahuac, Texas Point, and Bessie Heights area.
I heard a interview with the Duck Commander saying theirs was very mediocre.

SULPHITE 03-10-2010 09:57 PM

the places I hunted were up and down...rain and lots of water did not help either area as well...

Ducks

Pecan Island was pretty good. Not as good as the past few seasons, but we can't complain. Water was way to high for most of the season, when it dropped we were covered up with birds. Mostly on the south side of the highway, the ducks on our Northside spot were practically non-existent

I enjoyed every hunt birds or no birds, but it was my dogs first season and we spent a lot of time practicing since he was the dog that " wasn't going to be great", boy if they could have seen him this season!!!

The first split was pretty good. After the split, it was terrible.

longsidelandry 03-10-2010 11:17 PM

It sucked for me, only got to go on 2 hunts and only killed 4 ducks and 3 were spoonies so yes, 75% of the birds killed were spoonies! On a side note, I was able to do A LOT of deer hunting and for that, the freezer is full and I am happy!

Fishmaster 03-10-2010 11:19 PM

Terrible is a under statement ............

Outstanding:d

B-Stealth 03-11-2010 07:50 AM

Dont beleive Raymond he killed all those Mallards @ Dry Creek Ranch.

For me it was spotty, couldnt ever predict when a good hunt.

First split in PI we mashed them. Mostly teal. First 2 weeks or so of second split we didn't do worth a crap. Then it turned back on end of December and January. On my lease between 5 members we killed a little over 600 birds.

BellPepperHead 03-11-2010 09:03 AM

We did ok ended with a little over 500, but that was half of the year before.

Ray 03-11-2010 10:38 AM

The guy who hunted my old blind this past year said it was one of the best in the past
10 years. The blind is on private property directly south of the Lambert Bayou Weirs.
Lots of teal, which they haven't seen in years. Plus lots of Pintail and Gray Ducks.

specktator 03-11-2010 11:37 AM

tell u what i saw a ****load of ducks last sunday when fishing the lake

BMTAngler 03-11-2010 12:11 PM

We mostly had Grays,Teal (G & B), Pintail. The first day we saw a group of about 7 wood ducks high flying it, weird. We usually take atleast one greenhead out in Anahuac but not this year. Now thats not the same story for Texas Point, we got some massive Im talking big Bull Greens. SHould have mounted one but dont have the money right now

tcglsu 03-11-2010 05:41 PM

Sucked on my end ..went up to buck horn the last two weekends of the second split. Had a blast nuttin but pintail and mallards shouldve limited out but got a new choke and was tryin to get used to it

BMTAngler 03-11-2010 06:32 PM

I hate trying out new chokes. I stick to my mod.

adamsfence 03-11-2010 07:15 PM

man there was too too too much water for us i only went like 3 times......plenty of ducks but they had to many choices and wouldn't decoy......could have been my super good calling though

tcglsu 03-11-2010 07:38 PM

x-tra full i love it man next year its on!

cajunforeman 03-12-2010 12:46 PM

we had a pretty decent year. Killing mostly Greys and Teal. Was it just me or did the blue wings stay constant all year long everywhere?
