2010 Sabine Slam (LA vs TX) Tourney at Sabine Lake - October 9!
I'm looking to put together a tournament to be fished by folks from both LA and TX (LA versus TX), so I'd like information regarding both sides of the lake regarding lodging available (RV park, camps, etc), launch sites/marinas, etc. Ideally I'd have LA folks weigh-in on the LA side and vice-versa, so nobody has to buy a day license in the other state. Any ideas?

TX side there is the Causeway launch or the Sabine Pass 4-way boat launch thats way nicer. There is a new Hotel on 73 (I forget the name) on the way to Sabine that seems to be a nice place , I dont know prices yet. Port Arthur there is tons of restraunts and stores now off of I-10.

Nobody fishes Sabine besides BMTAngler?? :p

I have a friend who lives on Pleasure Island who fishes it. We are staying at Pleasure Island next weekend. I will get him to sign up on SC and see if he can help. He mostly fishes Reds, but he can hook you up with some info, or someone who can.

Shadman I grew up on the lake now live in Baton Rouge still fish there regulary. There is basically no where on the LA side to stay are launch except across the causway where BMT is talking about on the LA side and at Johnson Bayou no other public launchs on LA side. As far as places to stay most of the tournaments on sabine are held at Pleasure Island public boat launch on the texas side and there is also a RV site there. People would have to stay on TX side are stay in Lake Charles area. There is also a RV site at the causeway. If you need any other info let me know my hole family still lives there |
Thanks, guys! Here is a quick scratch of my idea.
Friday night "captain's meeting"/party on the TX side either on Pleasure Island or in Port Arthur, as near to the lake as possible, and preferrably at a place that allows RVs (it would be awesome if someone here has access to an acre or two near the lake). Saturday you can launch anywhere on the lake you want. Weigh-in on Pleasure Island for the Texans and at the causeway ramp on the LA side for the Cajuns (Texan weighmaster on LA side, and vice-versa :) ). Winner announcement/festivities/after-party on Pleasure Island. With weigh-in on both sides, the LA folks won't need a TX license. We'll need to check into the rules about having fish in your vehicle in TX, though...but maybe everyone can leave their fish ice chests in one vehicle on the LA side or something if that is an issue. FYI - This will be a LA vs TX tourney, or more appropriately, Salty Cajun vs 2CoolFishing. ;) 2010 "Battle for Sabine" Shootout 2010 I-10 Shoutout etc :D |
Sounds like fun and a lot of smack talking!

never fished sabine...looking forward to it
|
Y'all help me think of a good name for the tourney also!
|
I haven't been there since the storms, is the Texas Umphrey park still there? They used to have campsites. How about the Deep Bayou/Johnson Bayou Launch? Causeway launch is probably best for Louisiana people. Launch on the Texas side (much better launch) recover on Louisiana side.

There are 2 places right next to each other on Pleasure Island to weigh in. Them folks
are good people. They are prolly willing to do most anything to bring tourist/people/ boaters/fishermen to the island. |
