Headknocker 1 Week in Grand Isle - Not so good

I just got back from GI after spending a week fishing pretty darn hard with 8 people & 2 boats.

We fished the rocks, reefs, islands, cuts, Elmer's, the beach and every where we could think of and it was disapointing. We fished live shrimp every day and tried artificial to no avail. The weather was nice and we had a couple of windy days but fishable.

We caught 6 or 7 specks and about 50 white trout and were happy to catch those. The kids had fun and that is what counts.

I am an average fisherman and have been to GI for the past 10 years on summer vacation and this is the worse I have done. Even last year with BP taking over the island, we struggled to find bait but we caught specks.

I read reports that the salt content was low and sure enough when we got there and I tasted the water, is was no was near as salty as usual.

That is the only thing besides my fishing ability that I think hurt us. I spoke to the clerk at the marina and asked for a report and she said 2 people caught their limit the day before and that was unusual and it had been slow.

I know there were limiting out off shore but I could not make it out there. When we were leaving I did see some trout being caught along the beach by the jetties but we were packed up already.

Overall we caught fish and still had fun.

Happy Fourth of July!
