Granted the Vermilion river does have lots of floating trash and debris, but I don't think its any dirtier than other waterways in south Louisiana. The floating trash is more cosmetic and doesnt make the fish or other animals that live in it unfit to eat. Lake Hendrson as well as many other very popular lakes are highly contaminated with heavy metals such as mercury and PCBs but alot folks that post on this forum regularly eat fish caught out of these waterbodies.

But BasinMaster is right, besides from catching fish directly down stream from some kind of discharge (I have done and they tasted funny, only once) I don't think eating as much fish as you could catch would do any harm. All that water ends up in the same places you fish anyway. |
