Dang, that's a lotta cows fer 400 acres.
Our male donkey, Sugar Ray, would squeal around noon every day.
We used him to halter break show calves too.

If possible, keep the calves closer to the houses or closest to the
center of your land. We don't have big cats, but I don't think they
will drag a calf too far. It would be too much work.
There are cougars/panthers in the Merryville area. I seen that myself.
But that is another horror story.

Panthers scream. They make your hair stand up on your head.

I have seen a lot of bull on Chupracrabres, but never seen anything to say that
they are for real. Every picture I have seen, looks like a different animal.

Jordan you mentioned that you found prints. Is it possible to take a picture of the prints and post them? From your description it sounds like it would be a cougar. You also mentioned that you were inside the barn when you heard the hiss sound. To here the hiss sound as clearly as you described the cougar(maybe) had to be really close. Not sure how you do not see an animal the size of a cougar(maybe) inside a barn, if, you were looking around as you said you were. Is the barn an open air barn or does it have doors? Position several field cameras around the place and see if you can capture a picture.

I think the scream was from an actual woman when she saw Jordan creeping around her back yard!

My cousin and I saw a cougar a few years back in a wooded remote area off the Sabine river. He was very quick getting out of sight but there is no mistaking the movement of a cat. I'm sure you know how to tell a cat print from a bear or any canine species - cat prints don't show claws. It is a very eerie feeling. Anyone who has seen one in the wild will not make fun of you. It's unnerving to think that you are not the meanest predator out there. Imagine for a minute what it must be like to be a Masai herdsman in Africa trying to protect his cattle from Lions with a spear. Their main line of defense is a big fence of thorn bushes - I know, I have been watching too much Animal Planet.

i would go with a panther myself.. Theres at least one thats been hanging around church point for at least 10 years now. Last time he was spotted was about a month ago. My family lives all along one road and they've seen him several times and they say that the sound it makes definitely scares the living crap out of you. They'll hear it at night sometimes.

Also screech owls make HORRIBLE sounds! lol

I guy here at work brought pics from his deer camera friday of a cougar that was def. stalking something. It was scarry looking at the pics I can only imagine coming close to one in the woods. This was right near Midland-Esterwood area.

jordan, if you said it sounded like a woman screaming, then it is probably a black panther.

we had a few around where we hunt near the natchez trace - would hear the "screams" every so often. i heard one scream within a few hundred yards of me when i was getting off my stand and i don't think my feet ever touched the ground as i sprinted back to the truck. gamewardens told us it was panthers.

amazing what sneaks about in the woods...
