Default Nautical/Fishing Books

Any of Yall do eny readin?

I dont read near as much as I used to but heres a few good H20 related books I recommend.

"Plugger" By Rudy Grigar
Rudy was a pioneer of artificual lures, wadefishing, and later in his life an avid conservationist. Plugger is about wade fishing the gulf coast, mainly Chandeleur islands when they were still 2 miles wide.
Book is broken up into several sections and is a very easy read.
I had to fish the Chandeleur Islands after reading this book.

"Perfect Storm" By Sebastain Junger
Never saw the movie, but its a great book very fast read.
Book goes into great detail of the long line fishing techniques, lifestyle of the fisherman and the coast gaurd rescue swimmers that tried to save the Andrea Gail.

"Old Man and the Sea" By Ernest Hemingway
Great book about a lone fisherman rolling the dice and going out a "Little Too Far" for a big catch and the events that transpired. We can all relate to this book, being in a little over our heads with mother nature.

Feel free to add to the list, I need another good H20 book.

Thanks, B-Stealth

Good post B-Stealth, I'm going to get "Plugger", Iconelli is usually too intense for me.
I liked Pat Murray's "Guide to Coastal Fishing" , "Flounder Fundamentals" by Chester Moore, and anything written by Patrick McManus "A Fine and Pleasant Misery" is a good start. The Hunting Fool would like McManus: Funny, short stories about kids hunting, fishing, and camping.

Bayou Farewell by Mike Tidwell.
this is a good read, more about coastal erosion and the shrimping industry, but this affects us all.

Bayou Farewell is the best book that I have ever read. Also, I just ordered a book titled, Last Days of Last Island, by Bill Dixon. It is the true story about the days when Last Island was the home to a luxury resort before getting blasted by a hurricane in 1856. Supposedly, the science of hurricane prediction was not nearly as good as it is today and they never saw it coming. It just came in the mail today, so I can't give you an actual review of the book yet.

Another good one that I read is Rising Tide, by John M. Barry, about the flood of 1927 and the leveeing of the Mississippi River in response to it.

I had never heard about Plugger, but I am now planning to get it.
