Finally got old loud mouth yesterday morning. Been camping the lasy 4 of 5 weeks. Basically living with the turkeys to try and figure em out. This last stint started Wed. afternoon after work. Finally had some success yesterday morning. Friday evening I was slipping down to where I hunt and just about when I noticed a gobbler in full strut about 300 yards away, is about the same time he saw me. He had two hens with him and they all fled. It was getting close to fly up time so I didn't mess with them. That night it stormed and fell a flood. I figured my best bet would be to just go set up with no decoy and no call and just wait to see if they would come out in the open to dry out. Around 7am I had heard anything fly down but I heard what sounded like a very soft putt behind me. Wasn't sure but I heard it again and thought, I think there is a turkey behind me. Well I didn't even get to finish that thought when an earth shattering gobble almost caused me to soil myself. Then I heard him blow up into strut. He was behind me and to my left. I could hear sticks cracking and the sounds of him walking. I ever so painfully began to turn my head so very slowly to my left. When I got it turned I could see him standing there bout 35 yards. I eased my gun around but had a large fallen limb blocking his neck and could just see his head. I didn't want to risk that shot. Well to my surprise he starts walking towards me. When he gets to about 25 yards he is clear of the limb and I let my shotgun sing! He has a 9.5 inch beard, somewhere around 1 inch spurs. Didn't have a scale in the woods but he is at least 20lbs. Well, here he is.
