There's nothing worse than having to pick up someone's head 50 feet from their body because they weren't wearing a seatbelt...except maybe for having to inform their next of kin that they died in an accident that shouldn't have caused more than a few bumps and bruises.

i was on the vfd for 6 years and i have seen what can happen on both sides. i have also seen people get thrown and that is the only reason they are alive they would have been crushed........im not saying its right im just saying that is just something else they are telling us we have to do. just should be a choice not forced..........i assure you i know what happens at these wrecks. This is the reason i am no longer on the fire dept.

I served as a paramedic with B.R.F.D for 4 years and I never saw anyone that survived an accident because they were thrown from the vehicle. That's fuzzy math...

Any time someone says this, it is purely speculation. Your chance of surviving just about ANY type of accident is increased exponentially by having a seatbelt on. I can think of a couple types of accidents where a seatbelt may be detrimental, but those types of accidents are extremely rare. If your driving style makes it more likely for you to drive off into a lake than to rear-end another vehicle, perhaps you shouldn't wear a seatbelt (or drive, for that matter).
