Glad all is ok and thank goodness you guys came along to a paddle waving fool...Now for some ?????
What new model boat doesn't come with built in gas tanks...launch at 14:00 and out of gas 3 hrs later???? Then drift 40 miles from Myrtle grove??? If these facts are true this guy was saved by the grace of God alone....and should never be allowed to own a boat ever again...what an idiot... Sorry if I have my facts wrong and calling this guy an idiot but geez...come on, by all means this guy should be dead because of his ignorance alone....glad his boat sunk so he can't endanger no one else's life...Hope he woke up with a big ole hang over with a phobia never to buy another boat. I agree there is alot more to this than what he told us. I was only concerned for their safety n well bein and he was more worried bout that damn boat. That poor woman n child musta felt helpless bein that he left em ta go float in the bay. Freakin retarded. I know he was tryin ta find help but come on man. No gps not knowin where ya goin no backup plan no nothin. I dont think he will hafta worry bout that gal goin back with him. Its a pity his boat sank but obviously his priorities where elsewhere and bent on gettin his drink on. Dummy

This accident should be a reminder to all of us in regard to carrying the proper safety gear. I would say first on the list is a good fire extinguisher. (Required by USCG) Also a good anchor (not just a cajun 'pole' anchor). If you go in open lakes or in the Gulf a good drift anchor (a wind sock looking contraption) What it allows you to do is keep the bow of your boat layed into prevailing wind or rough water(waves). A good VHF/Marine radio as there are dead zones where your cell phone may or may not work ( I prefer a hand held in case I have to bail-out and ditch the boat ie; fire or hole in hull). A GPS so you can give rescue personnel you location or co-ordinates. Of course life jackets because it doesn't matter how good of a swimmer you were in high school, swimming in cold water and 3' seas are a completely different matter. I keep flares and air horn in case a day 'event' turns into an all night event. There are of course many other supplies such as bottled water and bug spray that could lend help to your survival (Too many to list) but these are just the basic stuff I recommend to folks who are new to boating. Also remember the rule regarding your fuel. 1/3 tank toget to your destination, 1/3 to get you back and 1/3 strictly for emegency conditions. Those 3 folks were lucky and 'blessed'. Kudos to you guys that aided in the rescue and stay safe out there...

If he ran out of gas, how could he hit rocks hard enuff to bust the bottom?
When they brought her back to the landing, they should have pulled her up on the bank. |
