That is a great video.

I am also not familiar with a poppet valve. I don't think smaller engine have them. What size engines have a poppet valve.

I often run my 40 hp outboard in bayous that are clogged up with floating "trash" that plugs up the therostate. So I clean it out every couple of trips. A water hose and small brush will get it fairly clean. But it needs to be "boiled" to get it really clean. Boiling [this opens the valve] will remove a lot of small "stuff" that is blocking the opening.
