Default A lil help from the Texans??

I'll be going down to Crystal Beach for the long 4th of July weekend and was wondering how the surf fishing was. I will not be bringing a boat so surf fishing will be my only option...unless one of you guys would be nice enough to let a coon arse jump in the boat with ya'll...

What baits work in the surf?...colors??
Morning or evening?
What to look for?....shrimp, mullet...etc.

Hook a brotha up...

I mostly fish Sabine but I hear Crystal surf is hit or miss right now. Head towards ferry and stop just north of the north jetty. I don't know the exact name of this stretch as all I've ever heard it called was Mexican beach. Shallow flat that is excellent wade fishing. there's a sunken cement barge that you can see from the beach, this area is good from there to the jetty. Good Luck.

sorry didn't see 2nd half of post. Gold sprite spoons, she dogs or spooks, brown's devil eyes, and live shrimp for trout. cut bait or mullet for just about anything else. Lot's of whitting in the surf recently.

Rettalian sp? is the road elaw62 is referring to. Road is right in the curve of the highway. Bolivar Pocket is the name of the place. When you hit the Beach, go right (west) to the pilings that will not allow you to go any further. You will be able to wade 200-300 yards out. Fish the Guts !!! Light SW wind will green the area up nicely. Skitterwalks is my bait of choice when it is flat enough. Croakers is the " Go To" Bait when all else fails ! Look for Mullet and you will find the Trout. Sharks can be a issue at times. Just move around to get away from them. 4th July should be a good time since the winds generally relax July and August. I'm usually there then, but IKE had other plans for my camp !! Will be at the new one in HB this time.
GOOD LUCK ! Send me a pm with your number if you wanna talk.
