![]() Does anyone recommend a brand name? I have heard that most names are the same now and have all the same parts, just different names on it. But want to make sure I get one with a good warrenty and stuff. Also, I live in Baton Rouge, anyone know a good dealer here that does good quality work? Dont want to get screwed. Want to get a few bids and see what I like best, but looking for recommendations. Thanks, Jordan |

Like you said call and get estimates but make sure that you are getting bids on the same size and brand and make sure it's a new unit , Not one that's been sitting in a wharehouse for years.

I would steer clear of a Goodman or Amana.
York, Whirlpool, Sears, Carrier, American Standard and Trane are the same, Rheem and Ruud are the same, Heil, these are all pretty good brand names. Trane and Carrier make their own compressors. Carrier has some really high tech heating units. But that can cost in the long run if they crap out. And they cost a bunch up front. Most have a 5 year warranty on compressors, some have a 10 year warranty on compressors, the rest of the parts are usually 1 year. Some let you buy a 10 year warranty that covers all parts and labor for a couple hundred dollars extra. I would definitely ask about this, it is usually worth it. The brands that have a 10 year warranty are probably better units. They make several different styles for each size. They make a plain one with no safety's like a 5 minute timer for when the elect goes off and on. Pressure switches... ect. and a spray on paint job. The mid of the road lines have baked on enamel, safety's and are a tad bit more quiet. The top of the line has all the bells and whistles and super quiet. Gov't requires all new units to be at least 13 SEER. But you can get more SEER for more money. In my opinion, 13 or 14 is good enough. 19 SEER would cost you a about double. |

Goodman and Amana has 10 year compressor and 10 year parts warranty. They both have Copeland compressors in them now, not the Bristols. They are alot better units than a few years ago. of course their price went up too, but still a good buy. Any thing over 15 SEER, you can't make your money back on them unless they last a REALLY LONG time. That ain't gonna happen anymore. The time where A/C units last 15-20 years are long gone. I just changed out a 3.5 ton inside and outside Goodman system, 14 SEER for a guy in Lake Charles for $3500.00. His inside unit was in a huge closet, very easy change out. Price will depend on how much work is involved in the change out. Pretty much all units out there do the same thing. It just depends on what you want. I have yet walk into a place, feel the cool air in a building and be able to tell you what kind of system is on the building, without looking at the equipment. What you want to look for is a reputable company that will service your equipment after the sale. ALL equipment has the possiblities to break down, no matter what name is on them, and they do! If you have any questions, give me a holler!
