Default Question

I just got a 2000 Tohatsu 30 and put it on my 15 48. I dont have a jack plate. I need to figure out why the thing takes forever to get planed out. I have it trimmed all the way down, manuel trim, and it bogs down for a little while before getting on plane. Any help? Im thinking of getting a jack plate or bigger motor.

Where's your fuel tank and how much load u carrying? Provided that the motor is running properly, try relocating the fuel tank up front

yea, I think you may want to go get the motor checked. cuz I had a 35hp GTR on a 19'8"x50" boat and it would roll 27-28 on a good day. only time planing was ever a problem was with a heavy load. with a 2 stroke outboard, you should be able to get on plane no problem. I'd get the motor checked may have compression issues or something causing you to lose power, or bad prop or something

if your cavitation plate is fairly close to the bottom of your boat then you should be good, changing the reeds could help a lot on take off however im like Warren may want to get the motor checked out as far as compression or carb because you should get up better, if you'd like i can bring you in my boat to compare or run them side by side

Well I measured the transom and shaft of the motor. The transom came out to be 20in. and The shaft was 18. The motor is M30A4 346B

I bought the motor and the guy told me the whole top end had been rebuilt by Blacks in Lafayette.

so cavitation plate is above the bottom of the boat then correct, are you "blowing out" revving real high before planing?

yea, that sounds like the issue, either need a longer shaft or shorter transom
