So if it don't apply to state waters, Big Lake is OK but is there any word on whether oil is headed for Big Lake and if so will action be taken to keep the oil out and the fishing open.

It is not hitting the jetty's.
The National Guard has set up a camp on the West side of the Ship Channel. They and the OEP are ready in case the oil starts to creep up towards the mouth of the river.
99% of the large GOM and East Coast skimers are at the spill site.
Our local shrimpers are the best hope for skimming right now.

I have heard that the Feds are strongly considering closing all the gulf coastal wildlife refuges for hunting this fall. Have you heard of this?

Most of the refuges on the eastside are state wma's and can only be closed by Bobby Jindal. Having said that, if there is no place to stay I doubt anyone will be hunting them. The logistics to hunt most is a pain without all of the Oil Spill Drama, just not worth it. The only thing I see putting oil across Hwy 82 will be a Tropical Suppression.
