Default Any fish being caught in Big Lake or area

I'm dying to get on some specs fellas. Anyone having any luck. Haven't seen any reports lately. I'll run into the gulf if I have to, but prefer not to use live bait. And would love to see pretty water

Gets really tough to consistently catch in the lake on plastics this time of year. I catch more on topwater in a day than I will on plastic. Now if u working birds, that's a different story.

i don't care what i have to do! lol i just want some fish. Big or small! I enjoy fishing birds as long as I don't have to fight for them. I'm thinking about an afternoon trip one day this weekend if the wind calms down i guess.

Don't hold your breath for the wind to die down in the afternoon. Last couple days, it has picked up in the afternoon out of the SW.

Same here. I'll fish birds all day but I will only fish them if there is no other boats on them, unless it's like 30+ birds. I was gonna try and make a quick trip in the morning but I'm not sure yet.

looks like i'll most likely be bass fishing again this weekend then. I really didn't want to do that, nothing can beat that speckled trout bite man.

Probably because we had a hard freeze this winter that lasted for 4 days straight. We saw the dead redfish, drum, and sheepehead. What we didn't see was the fish that died and sank to the bottom. Could there have been a severe trout loss? Absolutley. And we'll never know for sure.

A friend of mine fished with Big Lake Guide Service today and they only managed 26 trout by 11:30. If those guys can't put more fish in the boat than that then we are all in trouble. However, they refuse to use live bait so if a person uses live bait they may have a better shot at more fish. IMHO.

Wednesday proved challenging - started south by the old jetties, way muddy (youngest son caught a 7 lb gafftop that stripped drag and fought like crazy), went to the south side of west cove and it was too crowded. I was fishing with my two boys so I had to run way up north (not too far from turners which was muddy too) in order to find green water and when I did it was game on, reds, croaker, tons of flounder, black drum. There were no specs, but there were also no hardheads or gafftops.

We were off the ship channel down from Ellender Bridge. Put 4 in the boat in four casts, lost one at the boat that was pushing 20+ inches, then drifted picking up fish every 2-3 casts. Finished the drift with 20 or so but kept 3 eating sized ones. Finger mullet was the ticket along with any Gulp in white.
