Default Grand Isle 7-23 & 7-25

I fished Grand Isle on Friday and Sunday.

Friday I went with my buddies Mark, Kerry and Brandon in Mark's boat. We started out in Caminada Bay but couldn't get on a good bite. We made a move and hit the east end of Grand Terre. There were birds and bait everywhere behind the breakers. We caught keeper trout on just about every cast, until some potlicker rolled up on us and blew through our fish. We never could get them restarted. We ended Friday with 50 trout, one big redfish and more sail cats than we cared to count.

Sunday I went out solo. I guess my buddies didn't like the idea of fishing right after Bonnie. I went right back to Grand Terre, but the sail cats must have cleaned house because there wasn't any trout to be found. I moved farther to the east past 4 Bayou Pass and found the trout in a feeding frenzy. They were going nutz on schools of glass minnows. I quickly got my 25 trout and played catch and release for about an hour afterwards.

Here's a link to a video I took on my phone of the trout busting glass minnows.

Potlicking is not looked down on around Grand Isle.
I see boats pulling up on boats all day long. They pull within 10 or 15
yards and drop anchor.
We even had a boat run between 3 other boats while we were fishing.
He was on plane. All of us gave him the finger. He still didn't know what
we were mad about.

I wasn't mad the first 2 times this guy did it, as he gave us about 50 yards or so. The last time he came about 25 yards up current, cut his engine and proceeded to drift between us and the beach. Then I guess he gets pissed off because we're catching every cast and he's not, starts his big engine and plows right through the fish. I guess third time was a charm...

This is the main reason I try hard to not fish the popular areas.

yep i got a few spots around there where i can catch fish and people just pass by and look at you crazy like... Why is he fishing right there? then they just keep on moving and i go back to catching. But sometimes i gotta go fight with the crowds at the beach or some of the more popular reefs

I've gone so far as to tell my whole crew to stop fishing and grab a drink until the potential potlicker is well on his way.

Ya got to know where the hard head holes are. When ya get a serious potliker that wants to follow you around ,ya lead him right to the honey hole.
