Good friend of mine had a vibrio infection just over 2 years ago. Nearly lost his foot, out of work for over a year. His life has been turned upside down. He sold his boat, doesn't fish anymore, etc. He noticed the redness near his ankle early am going fishing. He figures he got it the day before loading his boat on the trailer in Lafitte, he walked in the stagnant water at the ramp. The infection spread rapidly in his body due to his diabetes. He had the first surgery within 36 hours of the first symptom.
The best place to go with vibrio symptoms is West Jefferson Med Center. There they have the Hospital of Louisiana, which has a Hyperbaric Chamber.
Read up on this stuff, it is bad news.
