I thought the body and markings looked like some sort of snapper, but the tail doesn't. I'd like to see the rest of the head.

Pigfish, Piggy perch.
Catch a lot of them in the Galveston/ Freeport area. Bait stealers but different from pinfish. Good bait for big trout. Saw a guy last summer in Galveston on the rocks off the Seawall catch 3 trout over 20 inches using them. I was catching nothing but dinks on live shrimp fishing the same area.

Pigfish don't get larger than 12" typically. They are described as a "palm-sized" fish. I'd say it's definitely some type of snapper, maybe gray or mutton. I've never caught either, so I'm not sure which that is.

Gray (aka Mangrove) Snapper:

Definately not Mutton.....They have a black spot on each side like a redfish.[SIZE=4]

Its JUST a PIGFISH! If it was 16" then it was a record sized fish! I am sure this is not the biggest pigfish ever caught, just that no one submits a record pigfish when they catch it@!

Looks like some kind of Snapper, but it would be better to see the whole head.
It doesn't look like a Mangrove Snapper.
