The record is 11.2.It was caught in May of 2002 by an angler on a guided trip with Steve Bono.Bill Garrett, of Houston released a trout over 11lbs that same year.Bill had just caught a trout over 10 lbs the week before and stated he did not want to kill another big trout. He caught and released the monster trout in pelican cove. The 10 pounder is on his wall. When I told him he may have let go a lake record he was surprised a larger trout had not been caught... Bill was wade fishing

I forgot to answer your question. Not only will the lake record be broken but I think the next state record will come from Big Lake.I think the anglers name is Tim Mahoney that holds the current record.

Bill is a super nice guy and a heck of a fisherman, I met him on the lake last year a couple times.

I wonder how much truth to this story....

On May 21, 2000, Stuart Roy of Lake Charles walked a chartreuse Top Dog over the calm surface. He had already caught an 8-pounder and two 4-pounders when a bigger trout smashed the bait. The big one measured 32 inches long and approximately 16 to 17 inches in girth. Roy weighed the beast on a spring-loaded scale, which only measured up to 10 pounds. It bottomed out. Roy released the fish and never officially weighed it on certified scales. However, according to Randy Pausina, the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries top marine biologist, the fish may have broken the record set by Leon Mattes in 1950, a fish weighing 12.38 pounds. He estimated that Roy ’s trout weighed between 12.5 and 13 pounds.
