I have caught Gar that big, but it was with a 3/4" pipe with a union on the end.
Not on mono line of any size. Dat thing musta been a fight on light tackle. I saw a kid fighting something in the canal behind the weirs a few months ago, he pulled anchor and let the fish pull the boat around for about 30 minutes, then the line broke. No one on any of the boats ever saw what it was.
