Default Second split opener

So i have officially given up on posting pics using my Iphone, for whatever reason it just doesnt work, I'm sorry. Saturday we killed 17 birds including our limit of penny penny pintails, a mottled, mallard hen, spoonbills and teal. For whatever reason we just could not get another non pintail duck to come in to finish our limit. Sunday was a different story with the blue bird day and light winds. We left at 9 with only 3. Saturday I did find something unusual while cleaning gizzards, one gizzard had at least 15 STEEL BB's in it. Found this very odd and felt like sharing with the rest of the class to see if anyone had a similar experience, the gizzard had no damage to it either.

Makes you wonder about lead shot when it was legal. Never anything unusual with ducks but once cleaned a blue cat from Oua****a River and it had a big wad of grease in its stomach. We were fishing near some barges, guess it fell off or was thrown out in the water. Tasted fine!

I fillet the gizzards now so I don't cut into the center. When I used to cut them open I have found a steel shot on occasion but never more than one or two. I'll bet most folks don't eat the gizzards or the hearts. They are great in gumbos. I will admit that I don't keep the livers any more. Mr. Shawn, do you cut open your fish stomachs to see what they are eating? I cleaned a redfish once with a shotgun shell plastic wad in his stomach.

Ate a gumbo last night that had some chicken heart in it.

The hearts were very good.

I hardly ever open fish stomachs, unless something looks odd. I like puttin my hearts and gizzards in my rice and gravy, i just start by browning my gizzards first as i find they take longer to cook

I once cleaned a mallard gizzard that had 20 or 21 pellets in it. I don remember but it was one of those outrageous numbers. Oh, and they were steel.

my thought was a shell that someone dropped while walking or hunting, fell in a feeding area and decomposed allowing the duck to consume a concentrated amount like that.
