Default The Maverick is a stick in the mud

Austin (Yak-em) and I went down to Hopedale today. I decided it would be a nice change of pace to head down the spoil canal and fish some of the flats to the south that had plenty of north protected shore. I have never been down the spoil canal in my boat so I wasn't exactly sure what way to go in order to avoid shallow water. I knew the water was low as we headed south because there was plenty of bank showing in the canal. We got to the critical decision moment of the trip and I took the wrong way. We hugged the left side of the islands as we passed the well heads and we should have went right. If any of you have been down there you know what I am talking about. The sun was in our eyes this morning so by the time we realized we had screwed up it was too late. I made a hard turn to come back to deeper water but the boat was up in about 2 inches of water and the motor was screaming because it was completely out of the water. Needless to say we came to a screeching halt. After making a phone call and finding out that the tide was coming in hard we sat and waited till we could float out. I am thankful we had such a tide today and that we got off pretty much scott free overall. It is quite the sinking feeling knowing you messed up bad and that you might be at the mercy of the tide. I am just glad I am getting to snuggle with my wife tonight and not Austin.

I know your pain! The only problem we had was that we couldn't buy a tide today! It was supposed to be coming up, according to Pox and we watched the water steady fall instead! Bout as good as a weatherman, Pox!

WLF guy said it's due to the north wind in Dularge. BTW, that guy was awesome!

We had to push and pull! I'm gonna be REAL sore tomorrow!

Any fish? We pulled a big goose-egg!

"And to set the records straight.
We did cuddle"

We is a rather amibguous term - could be on the boat or after you got back. Who knows how cold you two got waiting on the tide. I can see it now - the mud brothers.

cuddling is a vital and necessary part of fishing on my boat. Make sure you have your arm strength up for when you come with me Doc!!!
