Good jigheads (I prefer Norton) and a little Crazy Glue and any bait will last twice as long.

I never seem to have a problem with the bait sliding down the hook.

This stuff works well on gulp or plastics: http://www.prosoftbaitglue.com/

The applicator tip is a little tricky, but it does the job.
