i really believe that if a person wants to keep a fish, keep the dern thing, but if you catch a 12 pound bass one cast and a 10 the next cast, throw the 10 back and keep you some 2's for meat.......same for trout! it's absurd to think that catch and release cannot work for inshore saltwater fishing when it's been a major tool in the freshwater fisheries in our country for years. Also look at the billfish stocks, this mentality has saved the sport.
