check your local community colleges. Down where I'm at there are about 4-5 different schools about a hour/so from home that offers either instrument tech, production operator, or both. Louisiana Technical College has campuses everywhere, and that's about the cheapest you will find anyWHERE for instrumentation, PTEC, and even deep sea diving(less than 800/semester) When i went for instrument tech, barely had to buy any books, classes were really easy, just don't expect the whole college experience.
They offer certificates and degrees, in which i think the degree route is much more beneficial , besides--it's only like 6 extra more classes for the degree. Plus many schools have scholarships, grants, and even job placement(apprenticeship) FROM many big name plants, oil companies, and other companies in that field.(usually have an annual job fair just for the students and the H&R of the big wig companies. since the school is so far, and gas being so high, i've decided not to finish the instrument tech, but enrolled and will be studying to be the next best....electrician. ps...here in houma, at the school im attending this summer---L.E. Fletcher Community College has a ptec(production operator program) plus there's a scholarship from BP, forgot the amount, but it was enough to cover tuiton-(about 1k$) |
