Not sure it makes a difference other than looking pretty, a sharp hook does. 1/16, 1/8, and 1/4. Sometimes the lighter the jig the more strikes if they want a slower fall, but they don't cast as far. I try to cast them downwind anyway though.

IMO you really don't need a 1/4 under the cork, I don't think they bounce as high when you pop it.
