I find it only happens "cut off amount" at certain gas stations. I have seen it cut off at $99 and at $75.

I believe it just has to do with the tolerance levels set by credit card companies. Visa and Mastercard won't reimburse more than $75 if there is a disputed charge.

As for $100 I don't know...

Discover, either...apparently. Would it let you roll with real money?

I know the other day I put in about 40 bucks on my visa card and had a pending charge for 160 bucks until the 40 went thru. Then the 160 dropped off. Never seen that before but the woman at the bank said it was no big deal and acted as if they do it all the time. you gotta watch these credit card companies man.

Fraud protection, keeps the station from loosing since there is a limit card holder is responsible for in cases of theft. Heard stories of folks stealing a card and calling all their cronies to come and fill up.

It seems that I was able to put more than $99.00 a few months ago.. I could be wrong though.

i think they put it in during high gas cost times in order to cut down on fraud.

I target the stations that don't cut off at $75.00, but sometimes I have no choice. I fill up at least every 3 days, but have filled up as much as 3 times in a 24 hour period. And if you know me, you can attest to the fact that I hate wasting time at a gas pump, much less one that won't top me off. I keep a mental record of which ones let me top off all the way, for instance, the Exxon next to the Jennings hospital or the Exxon at the Duson exit, formally Studebakers. The one in Duson in now a Shop Rite store, which normally shut off at $75, so not sure why this one lets me roll.

Now, filling up the boat is a pain in the arse!!!!!!! I am there to spend money and have this big as tank (80gal) on the Blazer. Why do I have to keep running my card, can't you just do like the old days and turn the dang pump "on" so I can fill up and then go pay. I mean really, I can give you my DL, credit card, first born, wife, and hunting dog as collateral - just let me pump my fuel already!!!!!! I needed to put 65 gallons in it the other day - GEEZE, that took for evvvvvver!!!!!!!!

Gas stations will put a hold on your card sorta like hotels...they reserve a certain amount(40-75-100) regardless if you pump less.

Best way to remedy this is to go in and tell the cashier to take X.CC amount off your card.

Then ....if you pay with card you're charged more at certain stations.many stations will give you a couple cents off a gallon if you pay cash

I find that the mom & pop stations will give u unlimited gas with cash.. Or if u go inside and give them Ur lisc & card.
That method has worked at the name brand stations too.
We fill up my buddy offshore tank n Robert la, 250 gallons.
It take a while but they know the boat ans us so they leave the pump running after we go in and see em.

I usta be able to get only $50 with my MasterCard debit card, then it went to $75, now it is $100.
I can get only $100 from American Express at some places, but some truck stops let me get all I want.

I filled up at Cormie's using my credit card and it shut me off at $75. I used my fuelman card and there is no cut off. Like everyone is saying, they put the limit on it just in case the card is stolen. But what I dont understand is that u can just run card again and get another $75 worth.

I dont understand them either. I tried to purchase a pistol last x-mas for my dad at a small store in the town I grew up in and my card was shut off. My wifes card on the other hand, same bank, went right thru and im pretty sure shes ever spent a dime anywhere near there before. I just dont get it.
