PRO XS is built by Merc Raceing department, so that means a its a hopped up Optimax. I read that the 250 PRO XS dyno's around 290hp

I bought a Pro XS 225, for my new boat will pick it up around June 30th. It will be hanging on the back of a Haynie. Heard a lot of good things about the motor from the guys running them.

from what i've heard, you can run the 225 all day long. Its the 250's they've had a few problems with.

Don't have a big boy 225 or 250. I got a 115 pro xs. Live it so far. Still breaking it in. Great power and reall good fuel economy. I have about 2 1/2 hours of break in run time on it so far. Still haven't burned half a tank of gas so far(have a 26 gal. tank)

I'm on my second 225 Pro XS. Love it!!! Quiet for a 2 stroke. Doesn't burn any oil. Getting around 4.4 miles per gallon on a 24 Haynie. It'll run if you need it to. Very good motor. I think it's actually putting out around 245 horses. They are a reliable motor, knock on wood. 250's seemed to be wound up too tight. Oh, and they come with a 3 year warranty with the option of a 2 year upgrade.

I was told it was more like 242. Yes, my boat goes 62! I can't justify spending $1800 more for a 250 ProXS for 3-4 mph. And, not to mention that Chris said there were some problems with the 250s.
BOLT I cruise at 3800 rpms all day long. With or without customers. I only open it up when needed to. Usually 38-39 mph. Plenty for me. |

Why rated it as a 225 hp if it puts out 242 hp?
Same with the 250 hp... |

All engines make more hp without a lower unit. When they test them at the factory it is done on a bench test with no lower unit. You loose up to 20% of the crank shaft hp once you install the lower unit. Same thing with vehicles....with no transmission and rear end you have a significant amount of more hp.

I would like to see a reg opti against a pro and sport of the same hp sticker on same boat with exact same setup. See if the extra dough is really worth it
