Saltwater Pool Systems

Looking at converting our pool to saltwater. Anyone have a salt pool and was the change worth it as far as maint. and upkeep? Dealing with all these chemicals and cleaning agents are getting to be a pain in the you know what. Any certain brand? There are many out there. Thanks

alot of info on the net and everything I read makes it sound worth it once you get the water strait. We are lookin at buyin a pool next yr and I am gona put one of these in because what I hear once water is right all you do is add salt to pump and let it go

Wrong. Talk to people at a pool shop. You will still have to add chemials often. If you swim often the salt can not convert to cholrine fast enough.
You might want to check into the ionization system with the copper bars. But there are pro and cons to every system.

You are correct I put 200 bones in chemicals this weekend.

That is with the salt system. I'm not sure if it was the rain or drought but the algea was bad.

Maybe it doesn't ever rain. My neighbor went from Pristine Blue to saltwater and back to Pristine Blue.

Check out the ionization copper bar system. My dad has had one for 15 years. Hardly any maintenance at all.

We put in a saltwater pool last August. Its the system to go with. It is NOTHING like a chlorine pool. I put about 2 bags of salt a month in it. Salt is about 7 bucks for a 50lb bag. We have the Polaris cleaner that keeps the water stirred up, and it has a bag on it that picks up leaves and trash. I have a 10 and a 11 year old that stay in it with their friends.

Good info guys. I know people that have em and swear by em, but that's only few. Just needin more opinions and where else to get em but here.

switched over to salt about 3 years ago,and added a polaris. Best things I ever added. Its not just dumping salt in. You have a chlorinator that turns the salt into chlorine. Its at a much milder rate than just pumping strait chlorine tablets or granules into the pool. Makes your water smoothe like silk too. Dont have to spend much on other chemicals at all. Usually just a little on acid or baking soda to regulate the ph. Dont know much about the iron system other than that my buddy did this too his pool last year. He never could get the water correct and it ended up turning his pool black. He had to drain it and re finish the pool this spring.

Salt systems are fine. I have one on my big above ground pool. If you don't want to convert to salt, then what you want to do is the BBB method. Bleach, borax, and baking soda. DOn't need to go to pool store, just wasting your money there with all the crap they try to sell you. Walmart has everything you need. You put in enough bleach with the water circulating and it should clear your pool in 2-3 days. Borax and baking soda fine tunes all the other variables. I do this every year to get the pool going before i turn on the salt water system.

I converted my pool to saltwater a little over a year ago. It was pretty expensive to do the conversion but you no longer have to shock and add algecide. Water is always crystal clear and like speck-chaser said silky smooth. As for maint and upkeep, just vacuum it out everyonce in a while and add salt every few months. Also it is much less time consuming.

I tried to talk my wife into that but she didnt go for it?? Go figure, I just converted mine this year to saltwater system and has been good so far, I went with a cell big enough to handle 1 1/2 the times i needed for gallons. The biggest thing ive heard is proper cleaning of your cell once a year or every six months depending on how much the cell is being worked...I used to spend thousands a year in clorine and other chemicals, now im just adding salt and algaecide as needed and if you swim alot I would still shock it with a couple pounds every week or two..

I'm in the process of converting mine now. Just bought the chlorine generator three days ago. I'll let you know in a couple weeks whether I think it's worth it. There was a thread on 2Cool talking about it and about 95% of people who had saltwater pools said they'd never consider anything else.

well worth it. I have already converted my dads and 3 other pools to salt water and no problems since. Dad was spending over $100/month on chemicals and shock. Dads saltwater conversion is 3 years old and works great. Water is crystal clear and water is soft. No more chlorine, bleach smell. Kids can swim all day and no fighting the smell and red eyes.

Ordered the system out of Houston online and saved bunch of money. Installs easy and works great. Gave a much better warranty than the local shops. Great people to deal with.
