if you mean Hog Island Gully that would be a good ride and make sure you have lots of battery |

Not sure if it is Hog Island Gully. This canal comes in from the west straight into the bay.

West Cove canal is a little over a half mile long.

West cove is only a 1/4 mile from the launch but I would be very careful taking that unit very far. The cove can get rough fast, preplanning will be very important. Prien north launch would be safer if everyone obeys the no wake zone.

Great feed back. I really appreciate it. I have endured some interesting waves in this little boat. I was in Henderson the other day and a big ski boat decided to turn about 30 yards from me. 4 foot wave. I pointed the rear of the boat to the wave and it handled it with a little water getting inside. I will certainly check the winds carefully before I go. Looks like I need a south/ southwest wind. Have paddle and will have extra battery. Thanks again to all of you for your help.

Also be aware of tides. The canal can get some ripping tides through it.

If you are after reds you can just say in the marsh from the west cove canal. There are several openings that go back into the marsh that yaks go into for reds and flounders.

Specks-N-Red. I saw those on a satellite image. Appreciate the tip. That may be my first try. Jchief- thanks for mentioning the tides. I had meant to ask that question and you took care of it for me. Thanks to everyone.

I've paddled a kayak from that launch to the far east end of west cove near rabbit island. You'll have no problem, watch for all the traps at the end of the canal. Pick a calm day.
