This was in a public park owned by the city. Which means they had to have a permit to do this. Then they were handing out food which if someone got sick they could / would sue the city.
This group knew they were going to be arrested for not getting the proper permits.
Who ever did this litlle film slanted it to make the LEO look bad but if you notice that when the LEO walked up to the guys being arrested they didn't tell them anything. the guys just put their hands behind their backs and were cuffed. meaning that they had been warned to cease and desist ( probably numerous times) and they refused so that they would be arrested.
The group could have done this on private property and been ok ( If they could find someone to accept liability). But this was done in a public park for publicity.

I heard them say something about doing this on Monday's and Wednesday's.

If they really wanted to feed the hungry..... they should do it at some place that is legal. Maybe a church.

Looked to me that this group has done this other times and is "trying to cause trouble". It also sounded like the police had been there before to arrest people.

This group is not trying to follow the rules. It may be a simple as they don't have a permit that they could get..... if they followed health laws.

Eman.....we were typing at the same time.

I look at it like this.........

The laws are made to protect the people. In this case.....the people serving the food could be serving food that would make the people sick. A permit [or folowing the law] would help (?) insure that they are liget.

They are not "giving up a freedom". No restraunt can stay in business unless they follow the law..... No difference here.....IMO.

I agree . this was a pure publicity stunt. i volunteer at the local food bank and we serve anywhere from 200 - 400 folks a day.
the food bank would be happy to have both the food and the labor donations to serve the food legally.
There is no freedom to do what you want in a public park. there are rules to be followed so no ones freedoms have been violated.
here in B.R. they do things like this give away all the time. But you must get a permit from BREC and you must get inspected and permited to sell or give away food to the public.
i tried to get a permit to sell brisket and pork sammies and ribs at the big ball complex here and it was denied because they knew i'd take all the buisiness from their lil hot dog and burger concession stand.
