I felt I got just as good of a reel out of the core in a smaller frame than the Cali. thats just my opinion. The way I look at it is I work to damn hard for my money to be here for such a short time not to fish with some of the finer equipment offered today. The Cali is a damn nice reel, but I feel its not near as good as priced or expected. just my2 cents

Actually, there isn't a big difference in price of the Calais and Core. The Calais has some disadvantages, however. It's heavier and wade-fishing with it is a big no-no. It is so finely machined that there is absolutely no tolerance for a grain of sand. I have one that has been "super tuned" and I swear to ya....that thing will free spool for what seems like 5 minutes.
