Since your in the hospital, ask to speak to a dietician, I had to lose some weight before my heart surgery a few years back & they put me on a crash diet, not the foods I am use to, but the diet worked. Hope you have a speedy recovery.

not sure what the doctor ordered for you, but i would start walking, just to get the blood pumping regularly again. It's surprising how fast recovery can be expedited just be walking. REMEMBER WALKING 50 minutes and running 20 minutes are about the same...aommost

avoid sodium at all costs. avoid trans fats and saturated fats. avoid foods high in calories and cholesterol. worked in heart surgery as a nurse for many years. seen this quite a few times as a results of plaque build up in the carotid arteries.... you MUST follow the Dr's orders... NO EXCEPTIONS.

CF, my dad had a stroke Sept of 2010 and almost died in Dec. Make sure you take the rehab seriously and push yourself to the limit. Medicine has come a long way, don't let the word stroke hold you back. Dad just turned 74 last week and is back at it good as new.
