I understand your frustration with WMAs and finding a lease. I have been trying to find a decent lease since Rita and grew up hunting WMAs. I just hate to see people quit hunting because of all the obstacles that are presented to us now. Something good will come up eventually. I gave up a lease in JB in 07 and ducks were nonexistant there for 4 years before that. They absolutely hammered ducks last year out there and several of those leases were leased by new leasees last year. |

Same Here
A couple of years ago I was able to participate on a section near FWC, the previous 5 yrs it was going for 5,000yr, so I Bid $6500.00. There were only two bidders myself and the previous leasers, they bid $13,000.00. I was like WTH. Too rich for my blood.

I know some guys that were paying $15000.00 (1000 acres or so) for a lease in PI. They crush the ducks. One of the best leases around. Land owner went up to $27000.00 on them the next year cause he knew people would pay it. And they sucked it up and pay it.

I'll go buy it befor I spend that much! This is why I don't hunt down here. The most I ever paid for a lease back home was working cattle for a day or making weld repairs on farm equipment. There's no way I would pay what these dudes want!

If the state would manage what public habitat we have for ducks and/or allow access or even limited access to some of the better state owned lands, like White Lake, this "big money" duck hunting world we live in down here would be alleviated some...

Ive seen blinds go for $10k a piece just south of Deer Park along the Ms river.....all doctors. That was probably 10 years ago. One of the blinds used to be Fred Parnells, some the BR folks will know who that is.

I was told by someone that was bidding on some school board property that he and members of his group would each put in a bid. If there was no one bidding against them, the lowest bidder would leave his bid and the others would retract their bids. If others were there bidding on the same property, they would leave their bids in and hope the other bids would be read first so they would know which bid to retract. Warren |

You have access to over thousands of acres of hunting all across the state for less than $50 a year. Kinda makes those rich folks that will pay $X to hunt in the same place every single day, look silly

I was told that in vermillion parish the previous year's lease holder has the option to match the highest bid to keep the lease.

If it were that easy, a lot of hunters would do it. You can have the public land and I will keep my 5K lease! |
